PHILADELPHIA — Haneef Palmer, 33, also known as Lew, was sentenced to 121 months in federal prison — about 10 years — for his role in a 2023 Philly-area cargo-theft ring, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and reporting by CBS Philly and 6abc.
U.S. District Chief Judge Wendy Beetlestone also ordered nearly $1.08 million in restitution and three years of supervised release, court and prosecutor records covered in local reporting show.
Palmer pleaded guilty in March to conspiracy, Hobbs Act robbery, and related counts. Prosecutors say the ring stole more than $1.5 million in goods from at least 10 victims in 2023, including frozen crab legs, TVs, and refrigerators.
Among the thefts was the April 13, 2023, Northeast Philadelphia Walmart “dime heist” on Byberry Road, where authorities say thieves took about $230,000 from a roughly $750,000 load of U.S. dimes. Prosecutors also say Palmer took part in an April 1, 2023, attack that injured a truck driver.
