About - Philly Crime Update

Philly Crime Update is an independent local news site covering crime, policing, courts, and public safety in Philadelphia and its suburbs.

Our mission

We want people in Philadelphia and the surrounding region to know what is happening in their neighborhoods, quickly and clearly. We report breaking incidents, arrests and charges, wanted and missing-person alerts, court proceedings, verdicts and sentencings, and policing news, with a focus on accuracy and fairness.

What we cover

Our coverage area is the City of Philadelphia and its surrounding suburbs. That includes Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery counties in Pennsylvania, plus nearby stories in South Jersey and Delaware that affect the region. Our two main sections are Crime and Policing.

How we report

Our stories are based on information we can attribute: police and prosecutor announcements, court records and testimony, other public records, and reporting by other news organizations, which we credit by name and link to. We do not publish unverified social media rumors. People charged with crimes are presumed innocent, and we say so. We do not name juvenile suspects or victims of sexual assault. When a story develops or we make a mistake, we update or correct it and note the date. Read the full Editorial Standards & Corrections.
