LANSDOWNE, Pa. (PCU) — An 18-year-old Lansdowne resident was killed in a shooting Tuesday night near Blackburn and North Maple avenues, and two people were detained for questioning, according to the Delaware County Daily Times.
The shooting occurred about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8. Lansdowne police said an officer monitoring the area saw two males standing near a vehicle, then heard multiple gunshots and saw the vehicle leave. The vehicle crashed about a half-block away, and the two males who had been near it ran into a nearby apartment building, police said, as reported by the Delco Times.
Officers responded to the crashed vehicle and found the 18-year-old with multiple gunshot wounds. Officers and emergency medical personnel provided assistance; the victim was pronounced dead at the scene at about 10:42 p.m., according to police radio traffic cited by the Delco Times. His name is being withheld pending family notification.
Additional officers searched the nearby apartment building. Two individuals were located and detained for questioning. No one has been charged. Those detained are presumed innocent.
Lansdowne police and the Delaware County Criminal Investigations Division are investigating. “This is a terrible tragedy. A young man lost his life in our community, and my thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” borough Police Chief Kenneth C. Rutherford Jr. said, according to the Delco Times. “There is no taking back the loss of a young life, and our department will work diligently to determine what happened and hold those responsible accountable.”
Police ask anyone with information to contact Lansdowne police via 911.
