‘We Just Want the Guy Who Did It’: Family Speaks After 9-Year-Old Hit-and-Run Victim Goes Home

A 9-year-old West Philly boy is home from the hospital after being severely injured in a hit-and-run — but his recovery is far from over.

The crash happened around 12:22 p.m. on February 14 along the 2200 block of South 56th Street.

Police say the driver stopped, got out of the vehicle, looked at the child — and then fled the scene.

The vehicle is described as a 2010–2013 Honda Crosstour, mostly burgundy with mismatched body panels and a bicycle rack on the roof. The driver is believed to be a man between 25 and 35 years old with short hair and a beard.

Thomas, identified by his family, suffered a broken femur and will need surgery. He also requires plastic surgery for injuries to his lip and has bruises and abrasions across his body after being dragged.

Despite everything, his family says he’s strong.

“He’s strong. My guy is strong,” his aunt said.

Thomas is an honor roll student at Mastery Charter, and his family says he will return to playing the sports he loves.

Now they just want justice.

“We just want the guy who did it.”

If you see this vehicle or have any information, contact Philadelphia Police at 215-686-TIPS (8477) or call 911.
