Wanted: Shakur Nichols In Center City Sansom Street Armed Robbery

Philadelphia police have identified Shakur Nichols, 32, as a suspect in a Center City armed robbery and say an arrest warrant was issued for him Monday, Sept. 21, according to the Philadelphia Police Department and NBC10 Philadelphia.

According to a PPD crime blotter release, the robbery happened Friday, Aug. 28, at approximately 2:23 a.m. on the 1200 block of Sansom Street. Police said the complainant was walking eastbound when two masked men exited a dark gray Nissan Altima — one armed with a handgun and the other with an AR-15-style rifle — forcibly took the complainant’s jewelry and watch, then fled northbound on South 13th Street in the vehicle. The victim was not injured, NBC10 reported, citing police.

NBC10 reported that police later found the Nissan used in the robbery outside Nichols’ home and recovered black-and-white New Balance sneakers matching those worn during the robbery while executing a search warrant. Nichols was initially taken into custody for questioning and then released pending further investigation, police said via NBC10.

At a Monday press conference, police said they are searching for Nichols with the FBI Fugitive Task Force. Nichols is wanted and remains presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

NBC10 reported that police say the Sansom Street robbery is connected to related Aug. 23 robberies involving an AR-15-style rifle along the 1500 block of Locust Street and a follow-on robbery near Sin City Cabaret on Passyunk Avenue, but police have not confirmed whether Nichols was involved in those Aug. 23 incidents and said the investigation continues.
