GLENSIDE / ABINGTON TOWNSHIP — Two Philadelphia men have been charged with 12 armed robberies spanning Philadelphia and eastern Montgomery County, Abington Township police said, according to Glenside Local, Patch, and 6abc.
Russell Mason-Watts, 32, of Philadelphia — previously reported by Philly Crime Update as arrested in connection with a Cheltenham Dollar General gunpoint robbery series — and Tyreek Holmes, also of Philadelphia, were charged with eight armed robberies in Philadelphia and four in Montgomery County, police said.
One of the Montgomery County cases was an armed robbery about 8:03 p.m. on July 24 at the Express Fuel Mart, 2542 Jenkintown Road in Glenside (Abington Township), Patch reported, citing Abington police.
Both suspects wore facial coverings. One was armed with a handgun; the other carried a sledgehammer used to break open skills machines and steal money inside, police said, according to Glenside Local and Patch.
A joint investigation by Abington, Springfield, Cheltenham, Rockledge, and Philadelphia police identified the suspects. On Sept. 18, search warrants at their Philadelphia residences recovered evidence linking them to the robberies, police said.
They were detained and arraigned in Philadelphia, with bail set at $500,000 cash each. They will be arraigned on Montgomery County charges at a later date, police said.
Mason-Watts and Holmes are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
