HILLTOWN TOWNSHIP — Hilltown Township police are seeking Romanian national Grozea Daragiu and an unnamed accomplice accused of planting paper-thin ATM skimmers and PIN cameras at stores, including a Wawa near Routes 113 and 309 and 7-Eleven and CVS locations across three Pennsylvania counties, according to NBC10 and KYW Newsradio.
Detective James Towhey said the investigation began May 5, 2026, after a customer at the Hilltown Township Wawa found a fragment of a cloning device stuck to his card. Employees later found a camera device on the front of an ATM and, about a week later, a second skimming device on another machine, NBC10 reported.
Investigators said the suspects drove rental cars from New York to install the devices, then returned with cloned cards to withdraw cash locally. Quakertown National Bank later flagged clone-card withdrawals, advancing the probe, police said. Towhey estimated about 50 to 100 customers may have been targeted at that Bucks County Wawa alone. KYW reported Towhey describing the skimmers as paper-thin devices slid into card slots after openings were filed or sandpapered.
Police identified Daragiu but have not located him and have not publicly identified the second suspect. Those sought are presumed innocent and were not reported to be in custody.
