HUNTING PARK — Philadelphia police are investigating the suspicious death of a 48-year-old woman who was found dead inside a home in the city’s Hunting Park neighborhood on Thursday, according to 6abc and NBC10.
UPDATE (Sep 26): Police have identified the woman as Maria Pagan, 48, and say she was beaten to death, 6abc reported early Saturday. Police said Pagan died from blunt-force trauma to the head, and investigators have not recovered the murder weapon. Authorities are questioning a person of interest, but no additional details were immediately released and no arrest has been announced. Neighbors told 6abc that Pagan and her family were well-liked in the community and that she had at least two children.
Officers were called to a residence on the 1200 block of West Erie Avenue around 5:45 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, after family members responded to a wellness check, 6abc reported, citing police.
Relatives entered the home and found the woman dead in a hospital bed, police said. Investigators said she had apparent injuries to her face and head.
She was last seen alive around 5 p.m. Wednesday, authorities said.
Police initially did not release the woman’s identity or say how she died, describing her death as “suspicious,” NBC10 reported. NBC10 also reported that a homicide investigation is underway.
No arrests have been made, and the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death remain under investigation, police said.
