State Rep. Amen Brown said a multi-day undercover operation led to a raid Friday at the 4026 Convenience Store in West Philadelphia, where guns, drugs, and cash were seized, 6abc Action News reported.
Brown, who is leading a crackdown on illegal smoke shops in his district, said many such stores sell drugs and out-of-state cigarettes. He said the 4026 site had been hit before but that this was the first successful raid, and that a major concern is young customers being sold contaminated marijuana products, according to 6abc.
Brown said the effort, in partnership with the Philadelphia Police Department and the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s office, has shut down 13 similar shops in about the last three months, with about 30 more targeted in his district, 6abc reported. Neighbors told Action News the 24-hour location has been problematic for years.
Philadelphia police confirmed a narcotics operation at the locations but did not say whether anyone had been arrested or charged. Action News said it made multiple attempts to reach the store’s owner and had not heard back.
