A Philadelphia firefighter was hospitalized and is expected to be okay after crews responded early Saturday to a South Philadelphia rowhome fire where hoarding conditions hampered efforts, officials said.
According to fire officials, Philadelphia Fire Department crews responded just after 5:30 a.m. Saturday to a fire at a rowhome in the 1000 block of Wharton Street. Officials said the fire likely started in the basement, where firefighters encountered hoarding conditions.
Everyone at the home when the fire started escaped without injury, officials said. Fire officials did not immediately say how the firefighter was injured or what caused the fire; an investigation was ongoing.
