Eight juveniles from Philadelphia are facing charges after Bensalem Township Police say they were involved in an overnight burglary and a series of thefts from vehicles in Bucks County.
Police say officers responded about 3:19 a.m. Wednesday to a burglary in progress at the Starbucks at 3619 Horizon Boulevard. According to police, the drive-thru window was smashed and cash registers were disturbed.
Bensalem police say they initially detained three male juveniles in a nearby Walmart parking lot and recovered merchandise from the Starbucks. With Upper Southampton Police, officers then located five additional male juveniles allegedly seen running from the area.
Investigators say all eight were involved in the Starbucks burglary and multiple confirmed vehicle thefts in a nearby neighborhood. Police also say the suspects are connected to additional attempted thefts around Neshaminy Square Shopping Center and surrounding residential developments.
All eight were identified and released to their parents or guardians pending further investigation, police said. They face charges including burglary, criminal trespass, criminal mischief, theft from a motor vehicle, receiving stolen property, conspiracy, and loitering and prowling at night. The allegations have not been proven in court; the juveniles are presumed innocent.
Bensalem Township Police are asking residents and businesses to review overnight surveillance. Tips can be directed to Detective Shawn Smith at 215-633-3687.
