A Florida man is facing charges after a Warrington Township police officer checking on a disabled vehicle allegedly found suspected drugs and more than $2,100 in stolen merchandise.
Police say an officer spotted a vehicle blocking a travel lane near Valley Square Boulevard and Alyssa Drive around 10:46 p.m. on Aug. 5.
When the officer approached, 28-year-old Israel Fortun of Miami was allegedly asleep and reclined behind the wheel, partially undressed. The vehicle was not running.
After being woken up, Fortun allegedly told the officer he had struck a curb, damaged a tire, and was waiting for a tow truck.
During the investigation, police say the officer saw a clear plastic bag containing a suspected rock-like controlled substance and two glass pipes with burnt residue inside the vehicle.
Investigators also say they found $2,139.92 worth of merchandise that had been reported stolen from Best Buy the day before.
Fortun was charged with felony receiving stolen property, plus misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police said he was processed and released.
The charges are allegations. He is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
