A Philadelphia man has pleaded guilty to shooting a 20-year-old in Center City during celebrations after the Eagles’ NFC championship win, KYW Newsradio reported.
It happened Jan. 26, 2025. Amere Wright, then 18, was accused of shooting the 20-year-old in the hip and torso while he was in a crowd of fans at 13th and Chestnut streets.
Investigators used video from body-worn cameras, cellphones, and surveillance cameras, which they said helped lead them to Wright.
Police served a warrant at Wright’s home in North Philadelphia a few days later and took him into custody. A search of the home turned up the clothing he was wearing that night, a gun, and his phone.
The 20-year-old physically recovered. On Aug. 31, 2026, Wright pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and gun charges. He will be sentenced in November. He has been in prison since his arrest.
The shooting was one of multiple incidents during Eagles celebrations after that game. A 26-year-old woman was charged with driving through a crowd of fans on North Broad Street, injuring eight people.
That night, police said they issued at least 31 citations, and three officers were assaulted. Outside the South Philadelphia Sports Complex during the game, a state trooper on horseback was struck by a suspected drunk driver.
