Philly Man Charged in ~$800K Main Line Jewelry Burglaries; Sources Link Attempt to Barkley Home

Montgomery County prosecutors charged Jabir Parker, 24, of Philadelphia, in connection with two Lower Merion burglaries and a Chester County attempted break-in in which nearly $800,000 in jewelry and a safe were allegedly stolen, according to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office and reporting by CBS Philadelphia, NBC10 Philadelphia, The Philadelphia Inquirer, and 6abc Action News.

Investigators allege Parker burglarized a Bryn Mawr home on June 22, taking 12 pieces of jewelry worth about $106,700, and a Wynnewood home on July 5, taking 28 pieces of jewelry valued at about $687,000 along with a safe, the DA’s office said. A third incident, an attempted break-in on July 18 in the Malvern/Tredyffrin area of Chester County, was interrupted when homeowners woke to suspicious sounds, found an unknown man inside, and called 911; nothing was stolen, authorities said.

The DA’s office did not publicly name the Chester County homeowner. Multiple outlets, citing sources, reported that the July 18 attempt was at Eagles running back Saquon Barkley’s home in the Tredyffrin/Malvern area. CBS Philadelphia and NBC10 each cited sources tying Parker to that attempt; The Inquirer noted that Tredyffrin Township police had previously confirmed an attempted burglary at Barkley’s home in July, and that District Attorney Kevin R. Steele did not name Barkley as a victim. 6abc similarly reported that the DA news release did not identify Barkley’s residence, while multiple media outlets citing sources said it was Barkley’s home. Barkley and his family were unharmed, outlets reported.

Investigators say geofencing cellphone data linked Parker’s phone to all three scenes, that a nanny cam captured his voice during one burglary, and that a rented white GMC Yukon Denali tied to Parker was returned about 90 minutes after the interrupted Chester County attempt. Parker was arrested Sept. 1 with help from FBI SWAT and other agencies, according to authorities. He faces burglary, conspiracy, and related felony charges and is being held on $1 million bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 10. Additional suspects are being sought, officials said.

Parker is presumed innocent. The charges are allegations that have not been proven in court.
