UPPER GWYNEDD TOWNSHIP — A physical education teacher at Montgomery Elementary School in the North Penn School District was arrested Friday evening by Upper Gwynedd Township Police on allegations of sexual offenses involving minors, Superintendent Todd M. Bauer told families in a letter posted by the district.
The teacher, Jason Theodore, was arrested Friday, Sept. 25, according to the letter, which was shared with North Penn staff and families that day and reported by FOX29 and NBC10. NBC10 reported the school is in North Wales.
Bauer wrote that Upper Gwynedd Township Police contacted the district on Wednesday, Sept. 9, and said they were investigating a complaint against Theodore. He was immediately placed on leave pending the outcome of the investigation, according to the letter.
“This evening, we were informed that he was arrested due to allegations of serious sexual offenses involving minors,” Bauer wrote Friday.
Law enforcement told the district that, based on the information currently available, there is no evidence the alleged acts took place on district property, Bauer said. The district did not specify details about the alleged offenses or where they allegedly occurred, FOX29 reported.
The specific charges Theodore faces had not been made public as of Friday night. NBC10 reported that it had reached out to Upper Gwynedd Township Police for details on the investigation and the charges but had not heard back, and that online court records were not yet available.
Bauer noted that Theodore’s involvement with North Penn families extends across the district “because of the accused’s work with the IRONKnights Elementary Triathlon and his role in coaching athletics.”
“I understand that this news is difficult to hear. I am also struggling to process the information,” Bauer wrote.
Counselors will be available at Montgomery Elementary, Pennbrook Middle School and North Penn High School, and district administrators are compiling resources to help staff and families have age-appropriate conversations with children who may have questions, according to the district. Bauer said the district is cooperating with law enforcement and that there are limits to what it can share because the matter is ongoing.

Theodore has not been convicted of any crime. He is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
