Philly Crime Update has obtained exclusive police dispatch audio of Philadelphia and University of Penn Police Officers responding to the shooting death of Philippine tourist John Laylo. PhillyCrimeUpdate.com was the first local outlet to pick up the story and investigate the case. We first spoke with his sister and then Philippine Consul General Elmer Cato who traveled from New York City to be with the family.
The shooting occurred Saturday June 18th just after 4am at S 38th Street and University Ave on University of Pennsylvania’s campus. The shooting occurred just after John Laylo and his mother left their hotel and entered an Uber to go to Philadelphia International Airport to return to the Philippines. A gunmen in a black Dodge approached the rear of the Uber and opened fire, fatally striking Laylo in the head. Police officers in the area heard the gunshots and responded to the scene. University of Pennsylvania Police Officers transported Laylo to Penn Presbyterian Hospital. Laylo survived the night but passed away earlier this evening. His sister announced his passing on twitter.
Police authorities tell us that they believe this shooting was completely random. Why would someone randomly open fire on a vehicles back passenger at 4am in the morning with no motive? Philadelphia has unfortunately become a place that is simply not safe for even tourists if people cannot simply take a ride-share to the airport safely.
No words, No rhyme, No reason just SORROW …….Were a rotting CITY.
It’s truly sad. Philly used to be great.
