As the City of Philadelphia prepares to endure a deadly summer, the year-to-date homicide rate is down 10% from this time last year. According to the Philadelphia Police Department, as of June 17th, there has been a total of 230 homicides. This time last year the city experienced 255 homicides. While the city is trending down on homicides, experts warn of a deadly summer ahead.

The violent crime rate is also skyrocketing in the city with a spike of 7%. Robberies, assaults, and carjackings are creating absolute mayhem throughout the city. Many city officials are at a loss of what exactly they should do. City council appears prepared to institute a city curfew for minors.
